Governor Sonny Perdue is proposing deep new cuts to the state's healthcare providers, slashing the amount they receive for treating Medicaid patients and removing a sales tax exemption for non-profit hospitals.

Perdue also says the state's weeklong sales tax holiday in the fall would end. And Georgians will face a number of new fees, for
things like court records, to help balance the state's books.

Facing 15 months of plummeting tax collections, Perdue on
Thursday lowered the state's revenue estimate -- effectively giving state legislators $442 million less to spend for the fiscal year
that begins July 1st.
